CDC Releases 2008 HIV Surveillance Report

On June 14, 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the HIV Surveillance Report, 2008 Vol. 20. This annual report provides information and statistics about HIV/AIDS in the United States and five United States dependent areas: American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The report is intended for use by epidemiologists, researchers, public health practitioners, and others as a source of information to assist in planning programs and services, developing policy, and monitoring HIV trends and statistics in the United States.

In addition to the report, CDC has created two fact sheets: HIV in the United States: An Overview, which provides a review of the HIV epidemic in the United States, and the Summary of Changes to the National HIV Surveillance Report, which details and explains the changes to this year’s report.

AIDSinfo Updates Clinical Trials Search Page

AIDSinfo invites you to visit our updated clinical trials search page. The new page offers potential trial participants, health care professionals, and others interested in clinical research three convenient ways to search for HIV/AIDS clinical trials.

  • Basic Search is a general search feature. Enter a word or phrase in the search box and the feature will look for all clinical trials including those keywords found anywhere in the trial record.
  • Quick Search allows users to easily locate trials of interest by selecting from a drop-down menu of HIV-related categories. Treatment Research, Vaccine Research, and Coinfections are among the many categories available.
  • Advanced Search allows for a customized search. Use the multiple search fields to refine your search and find clinical trials most specific to your area of interest.

Regardless of search option selected, the page pulls relevant HIV/AIDS-related trials directly from ClinicalTrials.gov and displays them on the AIDSinfo Web site. Users then have the option of further refining their search from the trials displayed.

AIDSinfo information specialists are available to help with clinical trials searches. For assistance over the phone, call 800-448-0440, Monday to Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
