June 8, 2016
June 8 is Caribbean-American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The goal of the annual observance is to educate Caribbean-Americans about HIV/AIDS and provide resources for HIV testing and treatment.
According to the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), outside of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean region has the highest prevalence of HIV in the world. Given migration between the Caribbean and the United States, this fact has potential HIV-related implications for Caribbean-American communities across the nation.
